Design an Amazing Logo with These Simple Steps

It only takes 10 seconds to form a first impression of a brand’s logo. Make it count.

Successful businesses know that great logo design plays a vital role in establishing a memorable brand.

Your logo is one of the first things a potential customer sees – on a business card, on a poster or even on the side of a lorry. It’s important to make a great first impression.

Whether you’re designing your first logo, or giving your brand a refresh, coming up with an original design that packs a punch isn’t easy.

Don’t worry, we’re here to help! We’ve made a list of things to think about when drafting up your designs.

Trends

New trends are constantly popping up in the world of logo design. Some will stand the test of time, but other may make us cringe a year from now.

The logos that have real staying power are those that are the simplest. Don’t make your customer think too much. After all, you want it to be instantly recognisable.

Minimal and Responsive

Minimalism is everywhere these days, from aesthetic white walled apartments to the popular Netflix show Tidying up with Marie Kondo. And it doesn’t show any signs of slowing down!

In a mobile-first world, it’s also vital that your logo can still be legible on smaller screens. Minimalist logos lend themselves well to being recognisable, even when used as a small Twitter icon.

Many brands have implemented a responsive logo that breaks down into a simplistic version as the screen size gets smaller. Alternatively, consider having an icon alongside your main logo. Here’s how we do this:

Fit for purpose

Do you know all the places where your logo might appear? Knowing this will help you to understand how your logo will be seen.

For example, it might be blown up on a billboard or appear on the side of a lorry. Or, it may be scaled down to appear on promotional pens, name tags or mobile app.

Future-proof your logo

Are you considering introducing new products down the line, or branching into other areas of business?

Making sure your logo represents your business is the most important thing.

For example, if your logo contains an image of a roll of carpet as you currently sell carpets, and then later you start selling radiators, the logo will no longer represent your business and may create confusion.

It’s worth putting some serious thought into this when designing a logo. Think about subtle signifiers that represent your core values without giving too much away. We use the technical aspect of the business to combine the / and } symbol into a fin!

If in doubt, a simpler logo will be more versatile and allow you to apply it to new product lines. As they say, less is more!

If you still aren’t sure, we are here to help! Here at Yellowphin, we have a team of creative designers that can bring your brand to life.
